What is Flexible Working?
Flexible working is an alternative to traditional working practices that can offer a variety of advantages for both employees and employers.
It can involve a variety of arrangements, some of which include:
- Working from home: also known as remote working.
- Hybrid working: a combination of working from home and working in the office.
- Part-time work: employees work typically less than 35 hours per week, however there is no specific number of hours that defines part-time work.
- Compressed hours: employees work their usual hours in fewer days per week. For example, working 10-hour days Monday-Thursday instead of working eight-hour days Monday-Friday.

With a variety of departments at BNS, including both office-based roles and on-site positions, flexible working looks different for each department.
We are realistic about the fact that the full range of flexible working options may not be appropriate for all jobs across the business – working from home won’t really work for our on-site maintenance team!
However, or entire team can request a range of working patterns, and we will always take individual circumstances into account.
